President Knapp to participate in WH conference call on universities' plans to commemorate 9/11 anniversary

The White House and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) announced today that George Washington University President Steven Knapp will participate in a media conference call at noon Thursday, September 8.

The call will highlight how higher education institutions’ and their students plan to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. President Knapp is expected to discuss GW’s Freshman Day of Service.

This initiative allows George Washington University freshman, faculty, and select upperclassmen to participate in service projects throughout the District of Columbia during the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance.

President Knapp will be joined on the call by Robert Velasco II, Acting CEO of CNCS, Mark Gearan, CNCS Chairman of the Board and Hobart William Smith Colleges, and Ronnie Cho, Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. The briefing and conference call will be open to all college student journalist and higher education reporters.
