Loyla Lashes GW

Wednesday 12/7/11 10:41 pm

The Colonials (4-4) fell to Loyola (7-1) today 65-55 at the Smith Center. The game was GW’s first home game in nearly a month.

The Greyhounds led the Colonials in every category throughout the night. Loyola came out aggressive with a fast pace and never let up.  Loyola proved they had tough defense limiting many of the Colonials to single digits. The Greyhounds showed their toughness with 42 rebounds, 21 of those coming in the first.

In contrast GW only had 9 rebounds in the first and 29 in the game. Lonergan blamed the low number of rebounds for their poor shooting performance. Sophomore Nemanja Mikic who is normally a given from downtown was held to just one three pointer all night.

Junior David Pellom was the positive of the night. He led GW with 19 points. He helped energize his teammates and the crowd by completing four monstrous dunks in the game.

Dylon Cormier was unstoppable for the Greyhounds posting 26 points and nine rebounds. His teammate Erik Etherly also had a strong performance with 15 points and 15 rebounds.

Tony Taylor was honored before the start of the game for scoring his 1,000-point while at GW. The night would prove to be disappointing for Taylor who was held to only six points and six assists for the night.

Coach mike Lonergan lost to long time friend and former teammate Coach Jimmy Patsos. The Colonials look to turn things around this Sunday against the nationally ranked Syracuse.
