| The Colonials Win in Overtime |
|
Wednesday 11/30/11 9:45pm The Colonials (3-3) conquered Old Dominion (1-7) 58-52 in overtime today at the Smith Center. Although the game had a positive ending there were some mixed results. Tara Booker and Dani Jackson were two highlights of the game. Booker completed a double-double in the first half and finished with a total of 17 points and 17 rebounds. Jackson finished with 16 points and was a source of energy for the entire team. Another positive for GW was its depth tonight, something GW has lacked for the last two years. Eleven players saw playing time throughout the game. Coach Bozeman couldn't stop praising the depth and energy off his bench. In particular he praised freshman Chakecia Miller who played 25 minutes stating that "[she] was huge ...and I couldn't taker her off the court". Although the rest of the team came out flat in the first half Jackson was feisty from the first minute. She laughed when asked about competing with her height and responded, "It comes easy being short. I just play with a lot of heart. You can't really stop me..." GW still faltered when it came to field goal percentages. The team made just 25% in the first and 26.5% in the second. Only Booker, Jackson, and Miller were able to sink a basket in the first. Sara Mostafa continued to struggle. She made just one basket in the game but as Coach Bozeman pointed out, "Sara made her contributing factor she made one basket that tied the score ". Bozeman was very adamant that she will return to herself on the court and that he a lot of confidence in her. The second half was a tale of two teams. Offensively, GW never had the lead in the second half. Defensively, they held Old Dominion scoreless for seven minutes. Tonight's win was the first time the Colonials have won back-to-back games since last February. They look to continue their winning steak at the Navy Classic this weekend. |
